Shani's Etsy Halloween Curation
IT IS TIME. Yes, I set my decor up right after Labor Day, but I don’t expect this kind of lunacy from all of you. I know that most people wait until October, and I’m fine with that. Perplexed, but fine. So, if you’re currently in the market for Halloween decor because it’s now the appropriate time to shop for that stuff, I thought you could do with a little help. Anyone can go to Target or Home Depot and shop the (rather amazing) finds there. Etsy is a different beast. It’s massive, it’s overwhelming, but it’s also a great way to support small businesses and independent creators, while finding some of the most delightful Halloween decor there is. SO, what follows are my own personal favorite Halloween finds from Etsy. Enjoy, boos.
THE CAT HOUSE. Obviously. Am I crazy or is this Tim Burtonesque cat house kind of acceptable for year-round decor?! It’s VERY highly rated and looks so, so much sturdier than any of the more mass-produced (but still adorable) options we’re familiar with. Get this for any cat who looks at you like your days are numbered any time you gift them with a common box to play with. This for discerning cats, mkay?
Skull Candle: This candle is SUBSTANTIAL. Some skull candles, okay a lot of them, lack detail (deadtail?) and size. Not so with this almost-life-size head candle. I also love the cute colors and the fact that it’s very well priced for how much candle you’re getting. You can choose both your color AND your scent!
Ghost Neon Light: Honestly it’s so cute I don’t know what to do with. myself. This Etsy store has SO much good neon lighting at prices that won’t make you faint in your chair. My personal favorite is obviously this adorable little guy. How do you pack him away for the other 11 (okay 10) months of the year??
Lace Bat: Oh don’t mind me I just spent my afternoon researching lace bats. I love the femininity of lace combined with the spookiness of Halloween. This is a ladies’ haunting, k?
Cat Scratcher: People, it’s a cat scratcher in the shape of a wizard hat WHAT MORE DO I NEED TO TELL YOU. I mean, are our cats about to have a better Halloween than we are? Perhaps. Prepare yourself for questions from literally every house guest you have until the end of time.
Ghost In Mirror: What, WHAT?! How cool is she?? Honestly this looks like a movie prop. This is a resin-moulded ghost coming out of an antique mirror and SHE MUST BE MINE IMMEDIATELY. Fun fact: She also glows in the dark. Because of course she does.
The Frankenlight! This lil guy is easy to instal (you don’t have to be an electrician, or mad scientist as it were), and it transforms your light fixtures into the spooky switches of your dreams. The phrase BWAHAHAHAH! seems appropriate here.
Halloween Glassware: I love glassware in general, so obviously I’m quite taken with these stylish spooky beauties. These most certainly qualify as year-round glassware in my book, and in my home.
Cat Hat! I just…I just need you to know it exists.
Hauntingly Beautiful Bunting: Do you ever find something that’s like…not the aesthetic you’re living, but the aesthetic you WANT to be living? This bunting is very much that for me. I want to take up residence in a cottage on the edge of town and have the local kids make up stories about me. This is the kind of vibe I get from this bunting, and it must be mine immediately.
Bat Backdrop! Batdrop? Whether you need a backdrop for a gathering or just your own selfies, how amazing is this?? You could use it in a doorway or window, but I’m loving it as a backdrop for all your hauntingly fun times this Halloween season. Cauldron not included but you should totally get one. I have three.
Cat Balloons: Also from the same (amazing) retailer above are these cyooooot cat balloons! If you’re going for a more whimsical approach to Halloween, these should do nicely. I kind of want some for my next birthday party now that I think about it…
Halloween Decor Gift Box: Yes, you can self-gift at Halloween, too! The box includes two spooky candles in the scents of your choice, plus a palo santo + sage bundle and a V cute little matchbox. Honestly it combines two of my favorite things: gifting ourselves and Halloween. How was I not going to recommend this, really?
Halloween Spa Gift Box: Similar concept to the box above and from the same seller, but with a skull bath bomb (yes please), bath salts, candle, matchbook, and a little key pendant which I think is a nice touch. You’d better believe I’d reuse the candle glass as a pen cup.
Spine Candle: Is that a human vertebrae on your bookshelf? Why yes, yes it is.
Pirate Ship Cat House: Oh yes my friends, cat houses wear Halloween costumes, too! I mean my god it’s a pirate ship! If you can look at your cat sitting in this thing and honestly tell me you wouldn’t say “arrrrrrrrr!” every single time you are lying to us both.
Skull In Bat Frame: Charming! Bird skulls are among my very favorites for the simple wickedness of them. In their replica state, which this one is, they make delightful Halloween decor but in truth I’d keep this as part of my gallery wall at all times. I believe I’d name it Marbury, just for grins.
The Craft Candle: We are the weirdos, mister.
Skeleton Pillow Cover: LOOOOL I’m hilarious, and so is this guy. And if you never know what to actually put INSIDE all those cute pillow covers you see online, here’s a solution to that little issue.
