I’m really big on house smells. And I was even before my house was basically the only place I ever spent my time. A single woman’s home is very much her sanctuary, and a customized one at that. We’re able to feather our nests, sometimes literally, with whatever we like, exactly how we like it. My house is going to smell like a haunted Victorian mansion and that’s simply the end of it.
I’ve always been a fan of having candles around the house, but especially now that I’m finding it almost silly to spend money on essentially anything other than items that make a quarantine more comfortable, if I’m buying something, it’s either a book or candle, and that is my truth. I’m not saying I won’t light a clever candle that messes with my overall aesthetic, I’m just saying I’m happier when they come in chic jars I’m likely to reuse.
My Last Fuck Candle: Light a candle for the death of my dating apps. Whether you’re purchasing this candle for yourself or sending it to a single friend who is like…done, how do you not have a giggle? The world is aflame, a well-scented candle should be, too. These candles are cool in that you can pick your scent AND your lid color, and you know I love a customizable product for single women.
Staycation Candle: A word on wood wicks: they’re so cool. They’re like a mini crackling fire in a house where the fireplace hasn’t worked since the mid-60s. This candle brand offers an excellent aesthetic and several different styles of all their candles, and this particular scent is perfect for late summer, pre-fall vibes.
Panic Attack Candle: Because shit happens, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a super cool candle. This sage and rosemary scented candle will help you find your calm, but I also love scents like this in the kitchen. I think the “cinnamon bun” scented candles get too much attention, and something herbaceous sounds very nice. Also this candle brand ships free! Ocean Rose Candle: Personally, I love to try a lot of smaller candles, but if you like having one main candle moment in the middle of a coffee table or night stand tray, this big, 16-oz candle has a 100-hour burning time and a clean, coastal scent. I love a breezy candle for the intensity of summer because I don’t want to not burn candles, but I’m not trying to make the atmosphere even toastier, ya know?
French Quarter Beignet Candle: And then sometimes I just need a candle that smells like food. These NOLA-made candles are the closest I’ll get to a boarding pass any time soon, and until there’s some semblance of a vaccine that makes LIFE SAFE AGAIN, this candle will have to do.
Votive Sampler: I LOVE a sampler. Especially now when most of our shopping has to happen online. This candle maker is extremely highly rated, and you’ll find them popping up on PLENTY of best-of-Etsy lists, but still—I don’t know what their candles actually smell like! This sampler allows you to try mini versions of all their scents from their core collection, each with a 15-20 hour burning time and a super chic design. Astrology Candles: Yaaas personalized gifts we buy for ourselves, yaaaaaaas! Astrology is very much a part of my life, and while I’m not a stickler for buying “your” sign (read your full chart tho, the candles shown here are my Ascendant and Moon), I love candles inspired by astrology and customized to each sun sign. These candles have a 55-hour burn time and they ship free!
Our Dolly: Can you even? I mean CAN YOU? This maker creates all sorts of legend-inspired prayer-style candles, and each one gives me Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet vibes, but Dolly’s candle is BY FAR my fave. Can’t you just picture it? This lit while “Baby I’m Burnin” is literally playing in the background? It’s too good! I wonder if they’d make me a Tracee candle…
Fckboy Free Candle: SING IT! If you’ve been needing to clear the fuckboy air so to speak, light this baby up and let ‘em go. This is actually a massage candle as well, so you can use the melted oil to soften and hydrate your skin! I also LOVE that this maker creates a Palo Santo Sage candle for clearing the fuck out of negative energies around the house.

PNW Trio: Again, love a sampler, and this one’s inspired by the scents and vibes of the Pacific Northwest! Each 4oz candle burns for around 25 hours and let me tell you, if they transport me to Big Sur like the description says they will, I would like 50 of these candles, please and thank you.
Lavender Vanilla Candle: Anything in the lavender+vanilla family has always been a welcome candle around my house. I find the scent pairing really calming and a good year-round scent to for when I’m not setting an overall holiday mood for any reason. These candles are SO well-rated for being strong and filling your space with scent, which I appreciate. I don’t want to have to try to smell my candles, you know?
