End-Of-Summer Shopping For Single Women
You are reading the work of a writer who loves fall but can’t stop sweating. This late-summer shopping list is the amalgamation of every remaining summertime shopping moment I’ve collected but not yet shared with you. This is it, the last post that’s going to acknowledge that summer is even a thing. It’s long sleeves from here on out, people, is what I’m saying. Below, more-than-a-few things that are on my mind as we enter the home stretch of the year’s most uncomfortable season. We’re going to make it!
Cute Little Eye Masks: Pro tip, keep these in the fridge, adds a whole new layer of self-pampering that dammit we deserve. These lil eye masks were VERY popular this summer, often selling out and leaving me in digital tears. Any time I hear the word “retinol” you have my attention, so give me these highly rated beauties for my delicate and temperamental undereyes, thank you. Also they’re just cute and we deserve cute things.
Z Supply Dress: I love Z Supply and I cannot wait to share their fall offerings with you, but I feel like right now that’s just kind of mean. This is the ideal Z Supply piece for late summer, and it’s just the kind of clothing that doesn’t actually touch you that this crew is super into. (You are my people.) At $56 is super affordable and just the thing to throw on from now until October.
Uoma Concealer: Okay, I know I’m late here, but concealer works. I’m not much of a full-face-beat kind of gal, as I tend to feel very uncomfortable in makeup. (It’s like I’m wearing a mask, or a face on top of my face, and I already have a face, you know?) But if you buy an effective concealer like this one from Uoma which is ON SALE TODAY, use it where you need it and blend like your life depends on it, you don’t actually have to mess with all the contouring and spackling of products atop your skin. I’ll be honest with you, 90% of the time I leave the house in summer I wear no makeup whatsoever because it’s just going to melt southward anyway, but if I’m going to be seen by humans i know, a little concealer atop my BB Cream is really all it takes.
Bandelettes Thigh Bands: This is a listener-recommended product and they’re OUTSTANDING. I’m not a big fan of thigh chafe sticks and creams, as I don’t like how quickly they seem to dissipate and need re-application. I’d much rather wear a bike short or these beauties and forget I even have thighs, you know?
Madame de la Maison: If you’re not yet stalking Madame de la Maison on the daily, welcome to your new procrastination. The site is full of vintage homewares discovered by the brand’s founder, all one of a kind and extremely likely to sell out quickly. But if you love vintage in your home, this is 100% a resource to add to your list for quality treasures you literally can’t find anywhere else. (Also because waiting to get married and register for fancy shit is like…no.) I also just like the thrill of the rareness of it all, and the gentle suggestion that I’m competing with the entire internet for this stuff, you know?
Megababe Power Wash: I love Megababe, I have purchased, used, and loved MANY a Megababe product. While their exfoliating Le Tush is hands down my favorite item, I’ve also been using Power Wash in Beachy scent all summer, and it’s been a moment’s transport to the beach without me having to take a train anywhere or get full of gross sand. I use this before I get out of the shower and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and moisturized. The scent is also very grown up, which I find to be rare quality in summery, beachy products.
Brown Sugar Bear: If you’re a single person who loves to bake but might lose their mind if their brown sugar turns into a useless brick one more time before they can possibly use it all up, GET A BEAR. These things actually work. You drop one in your brown sugar container and it keeps the sugar fresh. I don’t know how, and frankly I don’t care, I just know this is the work of genius.
Watch & Cuff Set: I love a good wrist stack, but I actually don’t like shopping for it. This dream team set is handling my issues for me, combining BYCHARI and Marissa Collections efforts into one extremely wearable stack. It’s timeless and season-less, so you can wear it whenever, and it’s minimalist enough that it will work with your current preferred bangles. You know I also love a personalized moment, and BYCHARI also makes an absolutely perfect initial necklace that’s one of those permanent pieces you never take off.
Vanilla Shea Butter: I was recently gifted a set of Maison Jacynthe products to try, and let me just tell you, you should be prepared to hear about this brand from me for a LONG TIME. First of all, the scent is that of your favorite spa that you always wish you could take home with you, and second, all of the products are natural, allowing you to use them without worrying you’re putting strange chemicals all over yourself. I love many of Maison Jacynthe’s products, but this one is hands down my favorite, I will literally never be without a pot of this stuff. It’s a shea butter balm that’s very gently vanilla and very powerfully moisturizing. I don’t even use chapstick anymore is what I’m saying. I keep this pot on my desk and I’m telling you my lips and hands are softer than they’ve been maybe ever. A DROP of this stuff is all you need, so the pot will last you…I mean, my god, years?
Nicole Beyer’s Memoir: This book is in the mail on its way to me and you have NEVER KNOWN A MORE EXCITED WOMAN. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book and I’m IN LOVE with Nicole Beyer, so yeah…this is a read-in-one-weekend kinda book. If you’re not yet following Nicole or listening to her podcast, I beg you to start. Her voice (and rollerskating adventures) have been keeping me company in quarantine and I can’t tell you what a welcome voice in the single space (and every space) she is.
Puzzle Mover: Singles! Love doing puzzles but find yourself lacking in HUGE FLAT SURFACES TO ASSEMBLE THEM? This puzzle mat lets you assemble your puzzle at your own pace, then roll it up and put it away until you’re ready to go back to it, all while keeping your hard work in place. If you’re tired of eating dinner on the couch, get of these babies and get your table back.
Linen Nightgown: Quite a few of you have reached out asking for nightgowns, pajamas, and the like. We love our sleepwear, we really do. Obviously it’s summer, far too hot, and the best thing to sleep in, in my opinion, is nothing, but if you’re the sort who loves sleepytime clothes, for these late summer days I suggest a breezy linen option like the one shown here. I mean technically you could also wear it as real clothes? I promise to never give away your secrets.
Cat Glass: Beer friends! I’ve heard it said that chilled beverages taste better when consumed out of glasses with cats on them. I have not conducted any research myself, but I’m inclined to believe it.
Single Serving Coffee Maker: I found another one-person coffee maker! This one is cool for many reasons, two of which are that it’s affordable, AND it comes with a little DIY filter cup so that you can make coffee with whatever you like to make coffee with, without generating the waste involved in those little cup thingies. If you love coffee but hate actually making coffee, AND if you have limited counter space to spare, this is an easy win.
AllVeryGoods Bandana: Wear it or frame it, totally up to you. I also strongly encourage you to go get lost in the wondrous creations AllVeryGoods has on offer. If you love colorful, unexpected prints that you won’t see everyone on Instagram already wearing, this is your source. I am very partial to this print because it’s quite magical, and it also does actually come in an art print if you prefer, but I love the option of wearing the bandana or using it as a decor moment.
Koala Drink Markers: Now is no time to get wine glasses confused, knowwhatImean? If you’re having friends over for socially distant back yard hangs, grab these cuties and keep everyone’s germs to themselves, you dig?
Cat Palace: Longtime followers will know to expect a LOT of Halloween content very, very soon, but I couldn’t wait to share this celestial cat cozy with you ahead of time. I recommend this if you love Halloween or witchy vibes for the fall season but want to have a place for your cat to hang out that does have a sense of seasonlessness to it as well. Or just get one of these that looks like a giant jack-o-lantern, do you.
Linen Racerback Dress: Also in the realm of sleepytime clothes, this dress is, in my house anyway, perfect. It’s got a racerback which I find extremely comfy because there’s no physical way it can slip off your shoulders, and the light linen fabric makes it the perfect weight to wear right now. It comes in countless colors, but white is obvs the nightgown vibe of choice. You guys, this dress is only $60 and it ships free! There is also a spaghetti strap option that has more nightgown-y vibes if you prefer.
Sneaky Mask: This genius mask opens up via a little flap across the middle so that you can fit your wine I mean your Starbucks straw through it. Pandemic functionality, people, look into it.
Alex Trebek’s Memoir: Guys what do I need to say other than ALEX TREBEK HAS A MEMOIR. I don’t know what kind of juicy Jeopardy details are in here but believe you me I will find out!
Perfect Pajamas: Pajamas, but pajamas ON SALE. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is happening right now, and it’s a great time to grab the new, affordable pajamas you guys have been asking me about. I love a long sleeve and long pant moment, so I might keep these in the packaging until October when they won’t make me sweat so much I melt into the floor. They come in four colors and the sizes run 00-18. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is both temporary and insanely popular, so if you see something you like, best to grab it before your size sells out. Believe me, I speak from experience.
Buy on Nordstrom (Sale ends 8/30!)
Bees Wrap: I’m actually so mad at myself for waiting so long to buy this stuff. It works. It works REALLY WELL. And it keeps you from needing to buy a ton of single-use plastic crap. This set is washable and comes with three pieces in various sizes, which I’ve found is plenty for the single home cook. Not that I won’t buy more in other patterns, because I’m me.
Jungalow Quilt Set: I apologize in advance for monopolizing your day by making you check out all the interior design finds on The Jungalow. I’m truly sorry. If you love adorning your single person space in color and creativity, please look no further than every print and texture by Justina Blakeney. I mean this scarf is my entire holiday wish list. Okay but also this pom pom pillow…
