Hi, I’m Shani

I’m the host of A Single Serving Podcast and the author of A Single Revolution. I’m changing the narrative around being single, because so far it’s had pretty bad PR. I’m not an advocate for singlehood. I’m an advocate for women feeling good while single—there’s a difference.

Outerwear On Sale Because It's Not Actually Spring Yet

Outerwear On Sale Because It's Not Actually Spring Yet

I don’t care what the email marketing in our inboxes says, it ain’t spring yet. And while light layers and pastels and — yep — florals are amazing for spring, I’d rather acknowledge and enjoy the weather we have now as opposed to spending the next three months bummed out with average temperatures pretty much in the 40s.

One way to celebrate the weather is to shop for it — on sale. This is a great time of year to shop jackets, coats, sweaters, etc., and either wear them now because you’re bored with everything you own, or pack them away and save them for next winter and have brand new stuff when everyone else is freaking out on the first chilly day. Below, some seriously marked down outerwear steals I felt like telling you about today.

A Leopard Print Teddy Jacket: This BB Dakota jacket is warm enough that you won’t freeze while waiting for your Lyft but cute enough that you can wear it after sunset. If you get bored every time you look at your outerwear options, this one’s for you.

$65, marked down from $108

This Drapey Fluffy: Yes, that is a technical term. BB Dakota is clearly really good at fluffy coats. I love the draping on this one, and the crowd-pleasing color. I feel like it goes with everything, and everywhere, and it’s a classic coat sale moment that’s smart to take advantage of.

The Workday Duster: This falls under what my grandmother would have called “a little jacket.” Not that it’s small, but that it’s light and just enough for the current weather. I love this for work outerwear, it’s a little polished but not stuff at all, and not so heavy that you’ll sweat on the subway. Yes, I think about that sort of thing. (Also please note the amazing discount.)

A Faux Fur Fluff Moment: Apparently i’m in a fluffy mood. This just looks comfy to me, I dunno. I also love the way faux fur looks atop a really casual jeans outfit, sort of adds a tiny bit of fancy so you don’t look like you ran out the door grabbing the closest coat on the rack. This is one you’ll definitely want to dry clean at the end of the season and leave in the plastic until next fall/winter so she stays lovely.

Warmer Than Denim, Cooler Than Fur: You’re going to be really glad you have this for spring. Or, if you live in San Francisco, summer. It’s crazy marked down and 100% needs to be my new “weekend daytime plans jacket.” You know what I’m talking about.

$74 marked down from $148

A Good Rain Coat: Why do I feel like owning a proper rain coat will make our mothers proud of us? This option is stylish in a way I find really lacking from a lot of rain coats. They often make me feel like I’m about to go digging for dinosaur bones somewhere in the wild, and meanwhile I just want to go meet a friend for dinner after work. This one’s belted, beautifully designed, and still very functional for precipitation-heavy days.

$164 marked down from $278

Sequin Blazer: Do you need a sequin blazer? No. Do you want one anyway? Absolutely. Seriously though this isn’t an altogether frivolous purchase. First of all, it’s REALLY marked down, and will come in handy a during various occasions from New Year’s Eve, to last minute girls’ trips, to your actual birthday. Sequin blazers are usually pretty pricey, this is a smart move.

$73 marked down from $228

lacademie-lacademie-the-olivia-trench.jpg

A Truly Beautiful Trench: Okay, this is just gorgeous. This gray linen trench is, in my opinion, the ultimate spring jacket. It’s lightweight but still makes you feel more prepared for the elements than like…a shirt, it’s neutral color goes with everything but yet it’s not basic black like everything else you own, and the markdown on this is kind of insane.

$96 marked down from $298

A Packable Rain Coat: Nobody likes resorting to a bodega poncho. This option, that comes in a million styles (but I prefer the little horsies), is a lightweight rain jacket that will take up minimal room in your bag and protect you from maximum rainfall. Honestly this would probably just live in my suitcase year ‘round because why not. Another smart plan is to keep one tucked in your workbag or your desk for unexpected commute-time showers. (Because isn’t that exactly when they love to show up?)

$39.97 marked down from $74.95

Denim Trench: I LOVE a long denim jacket. I got mine in Paris (forgive me) and it’s my go-to spring and fall jacket. It wear it so much I’ve had to mend both a button AND a pocket interior. I sewed them myself and felt very accomplished. While long denim dusters or trenches tend to be investments, they’re worth it. I’m pretty sure the cost-per-wear on mine is in the negative at this point. I love this one because of the belt and cuff detailing, and the fact that the huge collar can be popped so that you feel like a spy. If you don’t want to go the full-length route, this is a cute denim option that’s affordable and not full length. (Not on sale tho, srry.)
