Where's Your Book?
One day, I’ll write a book. You’ll be wheeling through the airport before your flight home for Christmas and there I’ll be, next to some crime thriller, a YA novel they’ll turn into a movie trilogy, and the autobiography of Tracee Ellis Ross. In 2019, I tried to make it happen. I got an agent and wrote a proposal and had an idea I felt strongly about. I was going to write What Do You Call A Single Girl? The Way The World Sees Single Women Is A Joke. Each chapter was named after a word typically used to describe single women. It was a combination of memoir and societal call-out that I thought might make a dent in improving the opinion of single women. I’m not giving up on that dream, but I do think it’s okay to say that book ain’t happenin.
After a year of pitching, no publisher wanted it. And that’s okay. That just means it wasn’t my book. My book is still coming, and in the meantime, I don’t what I consider one of the best ideas I’ve ever had to go to waste. In my proposal, I wrote the first four chapters. I’ve released them all on Medium as individual essays. They are listed for you below if you’d like to read them. I recommend this order, but it’s up to you.
For those of you who ask me when I’m going to write a book, or where they can find my book, or my absolute favorite, “Where’s your book?!?” This one’s for you. Thank you for reading, sharing, and connecting with my work. It means a lot, and there’s a lot more coming. xo
