The Best Condiment You've Never Heard Of

I wasn’t going to write today. I said to myself, “It’s Sunday. Take a break, a day off to rest and regenerate and maybe not feel like you’re working every day of the week, I dunno.” But then something happened, and after talking it over with my tastebuds, I’ve decided that the distribution of this information cannot wait for the workweek.

I’d seen S&B chili oil w/ Crunchy Garlic somewhere in the online ether, and added it to the list of things I needed to pick up once I was done shopping for glitter and stretchy fabric in prep for Mardi Gras. I love a good spicy sauce or condiment, it is not uncommon for hot sauces of various origins to outnumber items of actual food in my fridge at any time.

The Amazon Prime delivery person buzzed my door at 11:08am. It is now 12:10pm. A quarter of the jar is gone.

Let me be extremely clear: This is the best condiment of any kind that I have ever tasted and before you even finish reading this, I implore you to buy some. This is not an ad, this is simply an urgent advisement.

So what is it exactly? As the name suggests, it’s chili oil with crunchy garlic. Essentially, pleasantly spicy fried garlic bits with ground chilis and fried onion and definitely MSG. The spice isn’t overwhelming or numbing, but rather just enough to get away earning “spicy” as an adjective. It’s from Japan, and it has a distinctly asian flavor. It’s not really an “oil,” it’s more solid than you’re expecting. Almost like dusting your food with flavor sequins. But for the amount of sodium I know is in this tiny jar, I’d stick a fork in there and eat the whole thing.

I know we’re all crop dusting our food with Everything Bagel Seasoning these days but I implore you to stop doing that and start topping everything you eat from breakfast tacos to roast chicken with this absolutely scrumptious magical potion. Seriously if you’re still reading this instead of adding to cart, know that I’m not mad at you, I’m just disappointed.
