Hi, I’m Shani

I’m the host of A Single Serving Podcast and the author of A Single Revolution. I’m changing the narrative around being single, because so far it’s had pretty bad PR. I’m not an advocate for singlehood. I’m an advocate for women feeling good while single—there’s a difference.

I Didn't Buy This But You Should: S.W. Basics Night Serum

I am a member of the Sample Size Nation. I have subscribed to Birchbox since its inception, I’ve tried Glossybox, Sephora Play, Target’s beauty box, and I’ve even had my eye on Walmart’s. (Don’t judge me, it’s an excellent value.) Most of my beauty product knowledge is gained in the time it takes to finish a sample , unless the sample is deemed special enough to be bucketed into my “save for travel” pile, in which case you’ll need to wait for my next flight.

But sometimes I am able to try something new in full-size form and I bounce around my apartment like sunlight through a prism. For example, this spectacular night serum from S.W. Basics, which I was gifted earlier this year. I was also gifted the Day Serum, but you know what… I wasn’t into it. It felt a little heavy to me for daytime. Anyway.

To begin, I don’t think this product is aptly named. It says serum, it is an oil, but it’s so damn lovely I’ll forgive it a nomenclature error. Every night after showering, I use 3-4 drops (yep, it’s gonna last ya awhile, this bottle) before I apply my face cream.

If you’d like to transport yourself to a mini spa on top of your face each night, I suggest using this product. It is a mix of jojoba oil (which I haven’t seen since my mom’s 90s bath beads) sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, and jasmine oil, which is I think where its divine scent comes from. It calms and moisturizes both me and my face, and I wake up on winter mornings without feeling like a parched raisin. You can buy it online, and I don’t make any money if you click that link. I do however get to be very happy for you and your face.

A word of warning: 3-4 drops’ll do ya. The scent is so intoxicating that you’ll be tempted to slather on more, but unless you’d like to slide right off your pillow case you’ll heed my advice.
