Hi, I’m Shani

I’m the host of A Single Serving Podcast and the author of A Single Revolution. I’m changing the narrative around being single, because so far it’s had pretty bad PR. I’m not an advocate for singlehood. I’m an advocate for women feeling good while single—there’s a difference.

Beauty Products I Actually Finish: Belif

Beauty Products I Actually Finish: Belif

Every six months or so I get tired of watching the label on a shampoo sample wither further away in my shower, and I clean out all unused or likely expired products. The trash can becomes a sad graveyard of unwanted Birchbox minis and randomly purchased drugstore products I bought because I needed cash and didn’t want to pay an ATM fee. But there are a brilliant few beauty products I actually finish, and the face cream I use every morning is one of them.

I have always been told I have amazing skin, to the point of friends in middle school rubbing peanut butter on my face in the hopes that it would give me the same teenage hormonal acne they were suffering. Honestly, I still don’t know what “amazing skin” means, I just know how my skin feels, and True Cream Moisturizing Bomb by Belief makes my skin feel fantastic.

Proof in the pudding, or lack thereof.

Proof in the pudding, or lack thereof.

This is my morning cream in winter only, I want to point that out. In summer, I use Belif’s True Cream Aqua Bomb, a lighter but still extremely effective cream better suited to summer’s stickiness and the fact that I only have one air conditioning unit in my living room. But in winter, when my skin is prone to feeling like someone has sandpapered it in the night as I slept, Moisturizing Bomb is a very rich, effective cream I use on top of whatever serums I haven’t run out of yet, either.

The cream isn’t cheap, at $38 a pop I typically buy one for winter, and if I run out I use other random samples and travel products until it’s warm enough outside to go for Aqua Bomb. But really, where should you spend your money if not your actual face? The thing you use literally every day that isn’t going anywhere except slowly south? I consider skincare one of my best investments and no matter what new products I try or bring back from Paris because I think they’re “fancy,” this is my daily go-to, and I have the empties to prove it.
